The city of Hickory has the oldest average homes of all the identified metropolitan areas in North Carolina. It is for this very reason that Habitat for Humanity has initiated The Habitat Partners Program. If you are part of a church or civic group that does home repairs or maintenance for people in need and you have your own crews and tools but lack the resources to complete your project, Habitat of Catawba Valley can help! St. Aloysius is proud to support this program and is presently seeking volunteers to help further this cause. The Habitat Partners Program can provide funding and/or materials for your project up to a value of $1500.  For more information, contact Repair Supervisor, Richard Greathouse, at 828-612-7485.

Highways and Hedges, a Catawba County ministry for the needy needs some volunteers to help deliver donated furniture to needy families. They also need church groups to provide meals for their small congregation that meets every 1st and 3rd Monday. Our group might prepare a meal once a year or once a season, whatever our group grows to be capable of. If you’re interested in being a part of either of these opportunities to help those in need, please email Dave Gerhardt at
