I am honored to serve as your pastor. I was born and raised in Canastota, New York. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, I enlisted in the Air Force and was commissioned an officer on September 13, 1985. I served for 7½ years in Texas, Japan, South Korea, and Colorado.

While in the military I completed my MBA degree. I moved to Charlotte in August of 1994 and worked in the industry for three years. I began discerning a vocation to the priesthood in 1997 and attended St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. I was ordained by Bishop William Curlin on June 1, 2002. I am a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. I recently served as pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Waynesville and Immaculate Conception Church in Canton for seven years.

I look forward to meeting you and your family as we endeavor to praise God and build up His Kingdom.

Ron Caplette : Deacon

Deacon

Deacon Ron is a native of Rhode Island. He served eight years in the United States Marine Corps and is a Korean War veteran. He and his wife Louise have been married 56 years and have 5 grown children, 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren! Ron has an Associate degree in Business Administration from Blue Ridge Community College, a B.A. in Business Administration from UNC Charlotte, an MBA in Business and Economics from Winthrop University and a Doctorate from Erskine College and Theological Seminary in the theology of Pastoral Care. He was employed in the textile industry for 25 years in a variety of management positions. He also taught in the NC Community College System until his retirement in 2001. He was ordained in 1988 as a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Charlotte. He served at St. Joseph’s in Newton for 8 years and St. Francis-of-Assisi in Lenoir for 16 years. He joined the parish of St. Aloysius July 1, 2011. He is an active adjunct faculty member at Catawba Valley Community College teaching Old Testament and New Testament Courses.

Bill Schreiber retired to NC in 2002 after serving 23 years in the Navy.  He and his wife Brenda were immediately embraced by the faith community at St Aloysius and have been involved in various ministries here ever since.  Shortly after arriving at St. Aloysius they became acquainted with Deacon Hugo May and through the influence of the Holy Spirit, the Deacon planted a seed in Bill’s heart. With that gentle nudge, the seed grew and blossomed in his heart and confirmed his desire to humbly serve the Church as a deacon. Deacon Bill was ordained on May 31, 2014.

Business Administrator & Human Resource Coordinator

Born in the mountains of North Carolina, Nan René has been a member of Saint Aloysius since 2012 and has lived in Hickory since 1993. With over twenty years of nonprofit management experience, Nan René has extensive nonprofit organizational experience from the back of the house to the front. She has specialized in nonprofit marketing, event management and for the last seven years in nonprofit financial and organizational development. Nan René shares, “That’s the beauty of working in the service of a nonprofit.  Whether it is a church or a community service organization, nonprofits require flexibility and call upon us to stretch ourselves to the limit trying things outside the box and working behind the scenes to effectively steward the precious resources that God has entrusted to us.”  

She received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University and a graduate degree in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University.  Nan René looks forward to providing support to the parish in her role as Business Administrator.  Nan and her husband Jim live in Hickory and enjoy spending time with family.

Born in El Paso, Tx, Gabby moved to Hickory in 2000 where she began her high school career. During her collegiate years, she earned a license and became nationally certificated to practice as a pharmacy technician. In 2011, she earned her Associate's of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Catawba Valley Community College. She practiced as a dental hygienist in private practice for 7 years as an interim practitioner. She attended Appalachian State University where she earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Communications, Advertising in 2017. Gabby currently serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of the National Dental Hygienist Association- Foothills Component organization where she hopes to help foster the continual need for dental hygienists in the state of North Carolina.  

She has a loving and caring husband, two beautiful stepdaughters, and a terrier puppy whom she calls her furbaby. She has an avid interest in learning and loves to watch movies. Gabby acknowledges that life is all about what you make of it which has consistently propelled her to new horizons. 

Her compassion and zeal in helping others have led her to pursue a career with St. Aloysius where she looks forward to helping her fellow man/woman fulfill their Catholic faith needs.

Isabel Romero was born in Mexico. The oldest of four children, Isabel moved to Conover NC in June of 1995. In 1998 she graduated from Newton-Conover High School and attended CVCC. In 2011, Isabel acquired her insurance license and worked as an Insurance Agent for the past 8 years. Prior to joining St. Aloysius, Isabel attended Holy Trinity Catholic church in Taylorsville, NC where she volunteered as a translator for the Pastor.  Isabel and her husband Alvaro have 3 beautiful children.

Kathryn Grandgenett : Coordinator of Jr. High Faith Formation

Kathryn Grandgenett

Coordinator of Jr. High Faith Formation

Kathryn is originally from Hamilton Ontario, Canada where she was an active member of her parish assisting with faith formation and sacramental preparation for First Communion and Confirmation.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and a Master’s Degree in School Administration and Leadership, from Gardner-Webb University.

She began her teaching career in Taylorsville, NC teaching 8th grade English at East Alexander Middle School.  Later, she taught 8th grade at St. Brigid’s Catholic School in Georgetown, Ontario where she helped with Confirmation preparation and other youth activities.  She later obtained her National Boards of Professional Teaching Standards in English as a Second Language and has been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at Shuford Elementary School in Conover.  She has been a member of St. Al’s for over 10 years. She and her husband Jim have 2 children, Sophia and Liam.

Sarah Rose has joined our team as Interim Director of Youth Ministry.  Sarah is a graduate of the University of Memphis where she studied Paralegal Services and Psychology and is a graduate of Leadership Fayette.  Wherever Sarah’s professional career has taken her, she has worked within her church community and has served in parishes as Volunteer Director of Youth Ministry at in Tennessee and Connecticut, while raising a family and working full time as a Financial Analyst.    

We know that Sarah has a heart for young adults and Youth Ministry and that she desires to help them forge a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and to grow in their Catholic faith!

Mike and his wife Mary moved their three children Amy, Michael and Caroline to Hickory from Birmingham Alabama when Mike relocated for his job as Senior Field Services Coordinator for Rohn Industries, Inc in 1998.

In the year 2000, Mike began volunteering at St. Al’s in varying capacities such as maintenance, adult leader for youth home mission days, cooking for youth ministry on Sunday evenings, St. Al’s sponsored Habitat for Humanity home building, adult mission trips and offertory counting team.

Mike takes great pride and offers his heartfelt gratitude for this opportunity to serve his parish family as he moves forward in his new role as facilities manager here at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Says Mike: “Mary and I believe that our Lord Jesus Christ has led me to this time and place, through great trials and tribulations to this wonderful home we call St. Al’s!”

Housekeeping Coordinator & Nursery Director

Holly’s family has attended St. Aloysius since 1998.  She has worked in St. Aloysius’ Nursery since 2003 and in 2015 began housekeeping for the parish.  Before joining the staff, Holly attended Catawba Valley Community College where she studied Early Childhood Education.  She has worked in special education for over 20 years and home schools her children.  In 1998 Holly started her own cleaning company which enables her to have flexibility in her hours for more time with her growing family.  Holly and her husband John have 2 children Holden and Autumn.
