A native of the North Carolina Mountains, Nan René has been a member of Saint Aloysius since 2012 and has lived in Hickory since 1993. With fourteen years in the corporate and municipal world and twenty-five years in nonprofit management, Nan René brings extensive organizational leadership and management experience in marketing, financial development, event management, leadership development, research, and program development.
Nan René has worked in the resort industry, meetings and event industry, social service organizations within the community and in management in the public and nonprofit municipal government sectors. Having worn many hats in her lifetime, Nan René has done everything from driving a school bus at age 16, to managing a historic bed and breakfast, to multiple roles in events management for resorts here and on the west coast. She has worked in management for various religious organizations prior to St. Aloysius, including the Diocese of Charlotte’s Catholic Conference Center, the Baptist State Convention and the Southern Province of the Moravian Church. Nan René was voted Rotarian of the Year by the Catawba Valley Rotary Club, has served as President of the Western NC Conference Center Administrators, President of the Southeastern Association of Conference Center Administrators, served as Marketing Director for the International Association of Conference Center Administrators and served on the Board of Directors of the Sharing Center in West Jefferson NC and as a Trustee of the Catawba Valley Foundation. She worked with the City of Conover’s Planning Department in their community engagement project and conducted research for the development of the Conover Station, future rail service and organized downtown development visioning forums. Nan René received an Associate’s in Liberal Arts from Catawba Valley Community College, her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University and a graduate degree in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University.
She enjoys sharing her experience in helping steward the finances and human resources we are blessed to have at St. Aloysius. Nan René and her husband Jim live in Hickory and enjoy spending time with family, Nan paints, Jim flies, and both are avid outdoor enthusiasts.
