I am honored to serve as your pastor. I was born and raised in Canastota, New York. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, I enlisted in the Air Force and was commissioned an officer on September 13, 1985. I served for 7½ years in Texas, Japan, South Korea, and Colorado.

While in the military I completed my MBA degree. I moved to Charlotte in August of 1994 and worked in the industry for three years. I began discerning a vocation to the priesthood in 1997 and attended St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. I was ordained by Bishop William Curlin on June 1, 2002. I am a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. I recently served as pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Waynesville and Immaculate Conception Church in Canton for seven years.

I look forward to meeting you and your family as we endeavor to praise God and build up His Kingdom.

Ron Caplette : Deacon

Ron Caplette


Deacon Ron is a native of Rhode Island. He served eight years in the United States Marine Corps and is a Korean War veteran. He and his wife Louise have been married 56 years and have 5 grown children, 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren! Ron has an Associate degree in Business Administration from Blue Ridge Community College, a B.A. in Business Administration from UNC Charlotte, an MBA in Business and Economics from Winthrop University and a Doctorate from Erskine College and Theological Seminary in the theology of Pastoral Care. He was employed in the textile industry for 25 years in a variety of management positions. He also taught in the NC Community College System until his retirement in 2001. He was ordained in 1988 as a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Charlotte. He served at St. Joseph’s in Newton for 8 years and St. Francis-of-Assisi in Lenoir for 16 years. He joined the parish of St. Aloysius July 1, 2011. He is an active adjunct faculty member at Catawba Valley Community College teaching Old Testament and New Testament Courses.

Bill Schreiber : Deacon

Bill Schreiber retired to NC in 2002 after serving 23 years in the Navy.  He and his wife Brenda were immediately embraced by the faith community at St Aloysius and have been involved in various ministries here ever since.  Shortly after arriving at St. Aloysius they became acquainted with Deacon Hugo May and through the influence of the Holy Spirit, the Deacon planted a seed in Bill’s heart. With that gentle nudge, the seed grew and blossomed in his heart and confirmed his desire to humbly serve the Church as a deacon. Deacon Bill was ordained on May 31, 2014.

A native of the North Carolina Mountains, Nan René has been a member of Saint Aloysius since 2012 and has lived in Hickory since 1993. With fourteen years in the corporate and municipal world and twenty-five years in nonprofit management, Nan René brings extensive organizational leadership and management experience in marketing, financial development, event management, leadership development, research, and program development.

Nan René has worked in the resort industry, meetings and event industry, social service organizations within the community and in management in the public and nonprofit municipal government sectors. Having worn many hats in her lifetime, Nan René has done everything from driving a school bus at age 16, to managing a historic bed and breakfast, to multiple roles in events management for resorts here and on the west coast. She has worked in management for various religious organizations prior to St. Aloysius, including the Diocese of Charlotte’s Catholic Conference Center, the Baptist State Convention and the Southern Province of the Moravian Church. Nan René was voted Rotarian of the Year by the Catawba Valley Rotary Club, has served as President of the Western NC Conference Center Administrators, President of the Southeastern Association of Conference Center Administrators, served as Marketing Director for the International Association of Conference Center Administrators and served on the Board of Directors of the Sharing Center in West Jefferson NC and as a Trustee of the Catawba Valley Foundation. She worked with the City of Conover’s Planning Department in their community engagement project and conducted research for the development of the Conover Station, future rail service and organized downtown development visioning forums. Nan René received an Associate’s in Liberal Arts from Catawba Valley Community College, her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Gardner-Webb University and a graduate degree in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University.

She enjoys sharing her experience in helping steward the finances and human resources we are blessed to have at St. Aloysius. Nan René and her husband Jim live in Hickory and enjoy spending time with family, Nan paints, Jim flies, and both are avid outdoor enthusiasts.

Gabby Elliott, BS, RDH : Director of Communications & Parish Administration

Director of Communications & Parish Administration

Born in El Paso, Tx, Gabby moved to Hickory in 2000 where she began her high school career. During her collegiate years, she earned her pharmacy technician license and became nationally certified. In 2011, she earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Catawba Valley Community College. She practiced as a dental hygienist in private practice for 7 years as an interim practitioner. In 2017, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, Advertising graduating Magna Cum Laude from Appalachian State University. Gabby currently serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of the National Dental Hygienist Association- Foothills Component organization where she hopes to continue promoting the interests of the dental hygiene profession.

She has a loving and caring husband, two beautiful stepdaughters, and a terrier puppy whom she calls her fur baby. She has an avid interest in learning and loves to watch movies. Gabby acknowledges that life is all about what you make of it which has consistently propelled her to new horizons. 

Her compassion and enthusiasm in helping others have led her to pursue a career with St. Aloysius where she looks forward to helping her fellow man/woman fulfill their Catholic faith needs.

Cecilia Chiok : Coordinator of Hispanic Ministries

Coordinator of Hispanic Ministries

Cecilia Chiok was born in Lima-Peru. She moved to the United States in 1991 where she settled in Florida and met her husband. In 1995, they decided to move to North Carolina.  She attended Catawba Valley Community and graduated, with High Honors, in 1998 where she earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration - Marketing & Retailing.  Her career has spanned across different retail companies & Financial Institutions where she proudly serves as their bilingual representative. As a Hispanic, Cecilia has had a special interest in working with the Hispanic Community.  Wherever she has worked, she has shown special interest in developing and offering educational workshops for the enrichment and betterment of the Latino Community.

Throughout the many organizations, she has helped as a volunteer, Cecilia was given the opportunity to be featured as a guest speaker for the Leadership for Minority Women conference sponsored by NC State A&T University Cooperative Extension Service in May 2005.  Cecilia has continued to volunteer with this group, which focuses on enabling minority women to improve their quality of life. In 2007, Cecilia was nominated and selected as one of the 30 finalists for the Nine Who Care Awards sponsored by Channel 9 as part of their effort to recognize individual volunteers who have impacted their communities.

Additionally, she has served as Human Relations Council member for the City of Newton and has volunteered with the Family Guidance Center as a Shelter for Battered Women & Children visitor since October 2001.  

Presently, Cecilia lives in Newton with her husband Gary. They have a beautiful daughter who has recently graduated from ECU and lives in Rockingham.  Cecilia enjoys writing poetry and baking Peruvian desserts.

Isabel Romero was born in Mexico. The oldest of four children, Isabel moved to Conover NC in June of 1995. In 1998 she graduated from Newton-Conover High School and attended CVCC. In 2011, Isabel acquired her insurance license and worked as an Insurance Agent for the past 8 years. Prior to joining St. Aloysius, Isabel attended Holy Trinity Catholic church in Taylorsville, NC where she volunteered as a translator for the Pastor.  Isabel and her husband Alvaro have 3 beautiful children.

Sarah is a graduate of the University of Memphis where she studied Paralegal Services and Psychology and a graduate of Leadership Fayette.  Wherever Sarah’s professional career has taken her, she has worked within her church community. She has served as a Volunteer Director of Youth Ministry in Tennessee and Connecticut while also raising a family and working full time as a Financial Analyst.    

We know that Sarah has a heart for young adults and Youth Ministry and that she desires to help them forge a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and to grow in their Catholic faith!

Housekeeping Coordinator & Nursery Director

Holly’s family has attended St. Aloysius since 1998.  She has worked in St. Aloysius’ Nursery since 2003 and in 2015 began housekeeping for the parish.  Before joining the staff, Holly attended Catawba Valley Community College where she studied Early Childhood Education.  She has worked in special education for over 20 years and home schools her children.  In 1998 Holly started her own cleaning company which enables her to have flexibility in her hours for more time with her growing family.  Holly and her husband John have 2 children Holden and Autumn.
